My favorite jerk male doctor comment came one too many times by my 25th year... Him, as he is scraping my cervix "you have no nerve endings here, so you won't feel this" Me "Really, is that what they told you to say in medical school? Cuz you know? I CAN feel that!" Him (snorting) "No, really! You shouldn't be able to feel that." Me "Sorry, what you say has no validity to me, since you don't own a cervix!" Him "Are you saying you can feel that" (re-scraping) Me "Sir, not only can i FEEL that, I would like to tell you that THAT is not a nice feeling" Him "Oh. Hm. Yes, that is what they tell us to say.... hm."

Find a nice doctor that listens. I, too, have had those stabbing pains that you describe. I had to change my diet because of my hypoglycemia and my pains subsided. Please consider cutting sugar out (but not dark chocolate) and adding fiber to your diet. This won't cure you, but it will lessen some of the pain. And good on you for not just accepting what the doctors say!

Acupuncture? I said it before, I was a sceptic, and now I try to get friends to listen to going with other means of pain management.

What a nasty week you've had! Good luck with your doctor search. You're right, eventually, you will find someone who knows what they're doing.

I, too, would love to win so I could share SHM with the local library. We've got a cracker-jack new children's librarian who would love it, I'm sure.

Dang, Deborah. What a crappy week for you. I'm sorry you're going through this. I bet if you stick with it you'll end up with a doc that will listen to you and help you find answers. I'm with you about the XX doctors and "female" problems. No matter how good a male doc might be, he doesn't have ovaries and has never experienced cramps--at least not first-hand. I always have a female doc for my annuals.

And yes, I'd love a copy of the book. My little Spanish dictionary doesn't do the trick.

If by chance I were to win the prize, I'd happily do a giveaway on my own blog of copy #8, since I'm the proud owner of every copy thus produced and I really want to spread the word.

Don't give up on finding someone who listens. Sometimes it just takes looking again.
Maybe talk to some of your local nurse friends about some of the docs that they enjoy working with and who are more open to thier patients views.

Incidentally, only you can decide who can and cannot be in the room. To deny you the support of your spouse was a violation of your basic rights as a patient. I would immediately call your state medical board and report this person for what he did to you and your husband.

First of all, happy early anniversary to SHM. It makes my day when it arrives in the mail. My treat to myself this month (things are very tight right now) was to renew my subscription.

Secondly, I am so sorry that the doctor was such a dick. Grrr... Keep at it and hopefully you will find someone who will LISTEN to you, and actually figure out what is going on with you!
