Don't know how to say it, so I'll just say it.
This is either the last issue, period, or it's the last issue for quite a while.
Just blame all the usual culprits: health, time, money.
Even if all other things were equal, I'd need at least to take a break right now. I finally get to schedule that surgery, and not feel extra pressure in terms of how long I feel lousy afterwards.
But the fact is, I'm giving all the time I have and some I don't to the magazine. I enjoy it, but I don't love it enough to give it every minute of my energy. And it doesn't make enough money to be one of those jobs that you may not adore but you keep doing to pay the bills.
I'm also a lousy businessperson, which doesn't help.
I owe some reviews that didn't make it into this issue. I'll either put out another issue at some point, or post them on this blog.
I'll be keeping the magazine's site up, to keep my options open. And I'll continue posting matters of interest to secular homeschoolers on the Facebook page.
I guess that's it.
And thank you.

Sad news indeed! It's totally understandable why you're closing up the magazine. But thank you for all the work you've done for the community!! I hope you'll at least make the site into a blog of sorts to post stories and events and news there.
Thank you, Deborah, for everything you have done to produce each issue of Secular Homeschooling Magazine. I've been a subscriber since the first issue, and SHM has been my favorite resource for homeschooling, as well as the only magazine I receive that I actually read from cover to cover. I have been meaning to write to you since the first issue to thank you for the hours and energy you pour into each publication, and now I regret that I have waited until the last issue to convey my gratitude. I will continue to treasure each issue as I work to follow the wealth of leads you have given me for the enrichment of my child's education.
Also, I want to extend my genuine condolences on the decision to halt the production of SHM. I know all too well the difficulty of making and reconciling to such a decision. I wish you the best of luck with your medical problems, your writing career, and your homeschooling endeavors. I will continue to follow your blog and Facebook and will forever be one of your biggest fans.
Thank you for what you have published ! I have loved every issue.
Thank you, Deborah. What a wonderful magazine you produced. I hope you keep us updated what you're doing!
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!
I hope you feel better soon, though. Health first definitely. And then back to the paper baby.

I adore your magazine and recommend it to every homeschooler I know-- secular or not. Your reviews and your articles will be missed. I hope you find a business partner who might off-load a heap of the work and get the magazine going again.
You rock. I wish you well.
I have always loved your magazine but it is time for you to take care of yourself and your family. Your health has to come before everything else. It's a horrible time to be in the publishing business, period. Rest and take care of yourself and the rest of us will keep our fingers crossed that your magazine has a rebirth some year in the future. In the meantime we will keep reading our old issues. Wishing you well and a healthy recovery from your surgery!
Deborah,
You definitely have to take care of yourself! I will miss the magazine. I've been a subscriber since the beginning and have always read it cover to cover and found quite a lot of food for thought. But you have to do what's best for your own health. THANK YOU for all that you've put into the magazine, and feel better soon!
You know we love SHM, but we love you more! Your health (and your family's well-being) come first. I would be more than happy to see SHM come back in the future, but even if it doesn't you have given us the great gift of your time and passion. Take care of you now!
Thank you a million times over for all you have been doing to spread awareness and understanding. Your work makes a difference.
I'm heartened to hear that you're putting the magazine on hold in order to put your health first. For all of us who tend to put our own priorities far down on the list, this choice too is another of your teachings.

Oh, darn. I just emailed you an article this morning, too lol. And then I just saw this. So disregard my email! Well, I'm sad to hear this news- I love the magazine. But of course, I understand. You have to put yourself, health, and family first! I will continue to follow your face book postings. And I will hold out hope that the magazine returns some day. :P

Last issue for quite a while, LAST ISSUE FOR QUITE A WHILE!! See, I'm compromising. You know how many fans are with me on this. Get better soon, and I am looking forward to the next issue, whenever it comes out.
Oh hell. I was just talking to my son last night about things we love about homeschooling and we both shouted out "Secular Homeschooling Magazine" at the same time! Then we both wondered, "Hey, where is our recent issue?"
Your magazine gave us the courage to homeschool. It ended up in our home that very first month we took the leap and we have enjoyed every issue since.
You have made me laugh often, caused me to reflect and ponder, given us wonderful ideas to expand our education, hope to continue this crazy endeavor, and now, truly made me cry.
You are brilliant, funny and talented and our whole family wishes you the best. I only wish we lived on your coast to lend you a hand.
Get well, be well and live happy. You'll be missed.

Thank you, Deborah. This is sad news indeed, but having run a similar project in the past (and writing far less of it than you have of SHM) we at Chez Smiffy understand completely.
Still, the homeschool world is the poorer for it. I hope your health concerns work out easily and that you return energized for another 13 issue run. ;)
But either way, thank you, thank you, thank you for your immense contribution to our family's homeschool life.
So glad that you are putting your health first.
We loved all of your issues. You are so smart and funny. Thank you for working as long as you did. If you ever write another word for public consumption I want to read it!! You are a fantastic writer and SHM has been so helpful to us.
Thank you Deborah! Take care....
